It was in the year 1999 at the IAA Auto Show in Frankfurt that the Bugatti EB 18/3 Chiron was first unveiled. This was the third concept car presented by Bugatti in two years’ time. The esteemed Giorgetto Giugiaro of Italdesign designed it.
The presentation of the Bugatti EB 18/3 came on the heels of the EB 218 sedan and the two door couple EB 118, both of which had been presented in the year 1999 by Dr. Ferdinand Piech, manager of the Volkswagen firm, which owns Bugatti now.
The Bugatti EB 18/3 Chiron, however, was intended as a successor to the legendary automobile the EB 110. While the design of an incredibly attractive EB 118 Spider was presented at this time, it was not yet clear what Bugatti would be the first to be produced at the new Bugatti factory in Molsheim. Ultimately, the four door luxury sedan version, the EB 218, was produced alongside the 18/3 version.
The Bugatti EB 18/3 Chiron utilizes several trademark Bugatti design features, including the famous design of the radiator, as well as the car’s center line, which runs from the front and ends at the very rear. (This can also be seen in the EB 110 car.)
