General Motors releases a medium size SUV that is known as the Buick Rainier. It was for introduced in the year 2004 as a replacement vehicle for the Oldsmobile Bravada. The Buick Rainier is also distinguished for being the first truck to be sold under the Buick marque since the 1920s, although it is arguable that the unibody Rendezvous could also classify under this category.

The Buick Rainier is definitely, however, the first body on frame V8 powered Buick since the Roadmaster was released in the year 1996. In the year 2008, a new crossover SUV known as the Enclave will replace the Buick Rainier. The Enclave will also replace the Terraza and the Rendezvous. The Buick Rainier will be remembered as the first rear wheel drive Buick to be released since the Roadmaster.

While the Rainier may only be available in five passenger Configuration, it is one of three SUVs in the GMT360 line that offers V8 power in such a Configurationalongside the Chevrolet TrailBlazer SS and the GMC Envoy Denali. An all wheel drive version is available, as well as a rear wheel drive version. Then there is the upscale CXL trim, which offers a higher quality Bose stereo as well as an XM Satellite Radio.
