General Motors once issued a mid size SUV in the form of a Chevrolet Blazer, which was similar in many ways to the GMC S-15 Jimmy. Production of the Chevrolet Blazer began alongside the bigger K5 Blazer and Jimmy in the year 1983. The Chevrolet Blazer was produced up until the year 2005. In the United States of America, retail sales of the Blazer after the year 2001 were limited to two door vehicles. All of the other models made during this time were sold to fleets. After the year 2001, retail sales of the two door Jimmy vehicle were limited to Canada.
The Chevrolet Blazer, which was in the S series for SUVs (named as such because they were based on the GMC S-15 and Chevrolet S-10 pick up trucks), was made in Linden, New Jersey; Pontiac, Michigan; Sao Paulo, Brazil; and Shreveport, Louisiana. The Moraine plant in the United States only produced four door models of the Chevrolet Blazer truck. In Linden, however, both two and four door models of the Chevrolet Blazer vehicle were made. In the late ‘80s, the main production took place at Pontiac, Michigan, where now only full size trucks are produced.
