In the year 2004, General Motors introduced two new models, the Chevrolet Colorado and the GMC Canyon, to replace its previous medium sized pickup trucks, the Chevrolet S10 and the GMC Sonoma.
In the year 2005, a version of the Chevrolet Colorado truck was sold by Isuzu, who helped to design the Colorado. In addition to Isuzu, General Motors North America and Brazil also helped to design the Chevrolet Colorado. The truck is based on the GMT 355, which had been the basis for the GMT 345 based Hummer H3.
The Chevrolet Colorado is made in Shreveport, Louisiana and in Rayong, Thailand.
Both the Colorado and the Canyon are available with either manual or automatic transmission. General Motors also offers a 4WD or a 2WD drive train with standard, extended, four door crew cab body styles.
Most models of the Chevrolet Colorado come with a standard 2.8 L LK 5 I4 Configuration. More powerful options are available, however.
A ZQ8 edition of the Chevrolet Colorado is also available. It comes with a lower, more road tuned sport suspension, as well as seventeen inch wheels and lower profile fender flares.
An Xtreme edition of the ZQ8 is also available. It comes with eighteen inch wheels and a different front bumper.
