In the year 2004, Chevrolet introduced a medium sized crossover SUV known as the Equinox. It was meant as a replacement vehicle for the Chevrolet Tracker. The car is similar mechanically to the Saturn VUE, although the design is a lot different. The Equinox is the first crossover SUV for the Chevrolet marque. As such, it is slotted between the TrailBlazer and the HHR.
The Chevrolet Equinox was built on the GM Theta platform. It was produced in Ingersoll, Ontario, Canada at the CAMI Automotive General Motors / Suzuki joint venture factory. Its Configuration, a 3.4 L LNJ V6, is manufactured in China, while its Aisin AF33 transmission is manufactured in Japan.
The Chevrolet Equinox is known as a unibody crossover vehicle. The Equinox comes with standard front wheel drive layout. An optional all wheel drive version is also available. Unlike the Chevrolet TrailBlazer and the Chevrolet Tahoe, the Chevrolet Equinox is not intended for serious off roading.
In the year 2007, the Chevrolet Equinox received a minor facelift. On the outside, it received a new spoiler and new bumpers. The antenna, previously on the right front fender, was now positioned on the rear of the roof. A standard audio system, including CD player, was included.
