General Motors is responsible for one of North America’s best known vans, the Chevrolet Express. The van was initially released in the year 1961 on the Corvair platform. Today, the van is known as the Express. It competes with such vans as the Ford Econoline and the recent Mercedes Benz based Dodge Sprinter.
Prior to the Express, General Motors made a van known as the Greenbriar, which was first introduced in the year 1961. The Greenbriar utilized a flat six opposed rear Configuration with air cooling. Its inspiration was the Volkswagen bus.
Between the years of 1964 and 1970, the Chevy Van was produced. It was a compact van, similar in design to the Dodge A100 and the Ford Econoline. The Chevy Van was based on a modified passenger car platform. The Configuration was situated between and behind front seats with a flat nose. Both the brakes and the Configurations on the vehicle were sourced from the Chevy II. It resembled more a compact automobile than it did a traditional Corvair van. This van was also sold as a GMC Handi Van.
The second generation of Chevrolet vans arose in the year 1971. The third generation, known as the Express, came about in the 1990s.
