The Chrysler PT Cruiser was originally launched in the year 2001 as an entry level Chrysler automobile. It is a typically American retro styled hatchback or station wagon built by the DaimlerChrysler group.
Upon its release in the year 2001, the Chrysler PT Cruiser made it on to the Ten Best list of Car and Driver Magazine. It was also designated the North American Car of the Year for 2001.
The letters “PT” stand for Personal Transportation, but are also meant to designate the platform of the car. PT also stands for the PT Cruiser’s production code. The name is sometimes thought to stand for “Plymouth Truck,” which harks back to a 1930s line of automobile. The original concept car was a Plymouth, but for the production line of the vehicle, the Chrysler moniker was adopted as the Plymouth brand had been discontinued by that point.
The concept version of the Chrysler PT Cruiser was initially targeted towards a young male audience. Many young females began buying the Chrysler PT Cruiser, however, which led the company to change its marketing strategy.
Many people feel that the Chrysler PT Cruiser resembles the Chrysler CCV of the year 1997.
