The executive vehicle known as the Citroen XM was produced by French auto stalwarts Citroen between the years of 1989 and 2000. During that time, Citroen managed to sell over 300,000 units of the vehicle. In the year 1990, the Citroen XM was awarded European Car of the Year.
Having been launched in the year 1989, the Citroen XM was considered by many to be the modern version of the Big Citroen, as well as a replacement vehicle for the Citroen CX.
The year after its release, the Citroen XM gained the prestigious European Car of the Year award. The Citroen XM won dozens of other awards that year.
The Citroen XM is distinguished for its extremely well proportioned design by Bertone, which was borrowed from the concept of the Citroen BX by Gandini. The design was not for all tastes – those who favored more conservative British designs or executive German designs were not attracted to the Citroen XM right off the bat.
Many advances on the Citroen XM took place over the years. These were executed as a means of counteracting concerns about the design of the vehicle. The Citroen XM had the same floor plan as the Peugeot 605.
