The Dodge Intrepid was a large full size four door sedan that operated on a front wheel drive basis. It was similar mechanically to such vehicles as the Chrysler New Yorker, 300M Sedans, Chrysler Concorde, Eagle Vision, and the Chrysler LHS.
LH was the designation given to the Dodge Intrepid, Vision, and Concorde. It was the codename given to the platform that underpinned these vehicles. The Intrepid was sold in Canada under the Chrysler mark. The Dodge Intrepid was meant as a replacement vehicle for the Monaco and the Dynasty. It was the largest car offered by Dodge.
The design of the Dodge Intrepid can be traced back to the year 1986. That was when designer Kevin Verduyn managed to complete the first phase of the external design of a concept vehicle that was known at the time as the Navajo. The design process of the vehicle, however, never passed the clay model phase.
At the same time, Chrysler had recently purchased the bankrupt Italian sports car maker Lamborghini. The exterior design of the Navajo was then reworked. It eventually became the Lamborghini Portofini, and was released as a concept vehicle at the Frankfurt Auto Show in the year 1987.
