The compact vehicle known as the Dodge Neon was first sold by the Dodge and Plymouth brands of DaimlerChrysler in the year 1994 as a 1995 model year vehicle. For a brief period in Canada and other markets outside the United States of America, the Neon was sold as a Chrysler vehicle, rather than a Dodge.
The Dodge Neon was initially produced as a front wheel drive vehicle that was intended to replace the Dodge Shadow / Plymouth Duster / Plymouth Sundance. It was also meant to serve as a replacement vehicle for the Dodge / Plymouth Colt vehicle.
Over the years, the Dodge Neon has been produced in many different forms.
The first generation Dodge Neon was introduced in the first half of 1994. It was manufactured between the model years of 1995 and 1999. It came as a two door coupe or as a four door sedan. The Dodge Neon was powered either as a 132 hp @ 6000 rpm and 129 ft /lbf of torque or as a 150 hp @ 6500 rpm and 133 ft / lbf of torque. Consumers of the Neon could choose from five speed manual transmission or three speed automatic transmission.
