The compact SUV known as the Nitro is manufactured by DaimlerChrysler’s Dodge division. The Dodge Nitro was first launched at the Chicago Auto Show as a 2007 model. The vehicle shares the same platform as the Jeep Liberty.

The Dodge Nitro is produced in Toledo, Ohio at the Toledo North Assembly Plant. This is a Jeep factory that is also part of the Toledo South Assembly Plant, where the Jeep Wrangler has been manufactured for nearly sixty years.

The Dodge Nitro is intended to compete with such compact SUVs as the Jeep Liberty, Nissan Xterra, Toyota FJ Cruiser, and Suzuki Grand Vitara. The Dodge Nitro also competes with crossover SUVs like the Honda CR V and the Ford Escape.

The Ford Nitro was first produced in August of 2006. It first went on sale the following month.

The Ford Nitro has the distinction of being the first compact SUV produced by the Dodge brand since the Dodge Raider was discontinued in the year 1990.

The Dodge Nitro is available for a starting price of $19,885. When it is launched in the European Union in the year 2007, it will have the distinction of being among the first Dodge branded vehicles to be sold on the continent.
