The Italian car manufacturer Fiat has been producing a supermini known as the Fiat Punto since the year 1993.
The second generation of the Fiat Punto, known as the Nuova Punto, was launched in the year 1999. The New Punto received new styling, while retaining the original shape and design of the first Punto. The interior and chassis, however, received a complete facelift. The new Punto would also be the first Fiat vehicle in several years to come with the original round Fiat badge. This was done as a celebration of Fiat’s centenary.
Two sporty versions of the New Fiat Punto were offered. One of them, known as the HGT, was capable of reaching nearly 130 miles per hour. It can accelerate up to sixty miles per hour in less than nine seconds.
In the year 2003, two new GHT versions of the vehicle were introduced. One featured a 1.9 L Multijet diesel Configuration, while the other boasted a 1.8 L 16 v petrol Configuration that was capable of attaining 130 miles per hour. A 1.3 L common rail diesel MultiJet Configuration vehicle was also introduced around this time.
In the year 2005, Fiat celebrated the production of the six millionth Fiat Punto at their plant in Melfi.
