The brand new crossover SUV the Hyundai Portico is larger than both the Hyundai Veracruz and the Hyundai Santa Fe models. It is based on the Hyundai Sonata platform.
The car is slated to be built in Montgomery, Alabama in the United States of America. The Hyundai Portico was initially show in the year 2005 at the Chicago Auto Show. It has been reported by Auto Week magazine that the vehicle is currently slated to go in to production.
The concept version of the Hyundai Portico showcased the Lambda DOHC V6 Configuration from Hyundai. This Configuration was mated to a six speed automatic transmission. The Hyundai Portico comes with hybrid power train, as well as electric motors that manage to power both the front and rear wheels of the vehicle. This effectively makes the Hyundai Portico an AWD automobile. The Hyundai Portico was styled by the Advanced Design Team of Hyundai at their South Korean headquarters. There, the largest integrated car manufacturing factory in the world turns out over a million cars each year.
The roots of Hyundai go back to the year 1947, when Chung Ju Yung started the Hyundai Configurationering and Construction Company. Twenty years later, the Hyundai Motor Company would be established.
