The Jaguar R5 is a race vehicle that in many ways sees Jaguar going back to basics. After several seasons of disappointing results, the company began to restructure its team and management. Alongside those changes, a new Configurationering based philosophy emerged. This new way of working involved a reappraisal of the way each Jaguar department functioned and tried to restructure the organization to ensure future wins.
The Jaguar R5 emerged as the result of Jaguar recruiting a brand new team of world class Configurationers. Their primary task was to ensure that the mistakes that had occurred in the recent past would not be repeated in the future. That meant designing a new car for the 2003 model year that would contain no hidden surprises. First there was the Jaguar R4, which was produced under the guidance of the managing director David Pitchforth.
Then, in the year 2004, the Jaguar R5 was unveiled at the Circuit de Catalunya in Barcelona, Spain. The car was driven by Mark Webber and Christian Klien.
Jaguar was founded in the year 1922 as Swallow Sidecar Company. In the year 1934, they changed their name to SS Cars Ltd. It was not until the year 1945 that they changed their name again to Jaguar, a name they have retained to this day.
