The medium sized luxury SUV the Range Rover Sport has been made by the British car manufacturer Land Rover ever since the year 2005. The Range Rover Sport boasts the same platform as the Land Rover Discovery (known as the LR3 in the United States of America and Canada) instead of the Range Rover, which is a much larger vehicle. The Range Rover Sport is thought of as a sports tourer. It is smaller than the Discover/LR3, and can seat only five individuals. It is, however, more expensive than the Discover/LR3.
In the year 2005, the Range Rover Sport was a target of protest by Greenpeace. Protesters infiltrated an assembly plant where the vehicle was manufactured and successfully managed to halt the production of the vehicle. The protesters were concerned with greenhouse gas emissions and subsequent global warming, which they felt would result from the vehicle’s inefficient combustion of hydrocarbons. In late 2005, a test was performed in which a Range Rover Sport was given only a gallon of fuel in its tank. After eight miles, the car sputtered to a halt after running out of gas. The Range Rover Sport boasts EPA estimates of 14 city and 19 highway.
