The MC Laren F1 GTR is a customized race car which was among the first to introduce the concept of a modified Configuration management system which was used to increase the power out put of the Configuration.

Because the racing regulatory board made it mandatory for air restrictors to be present in the racing car the power dropped by 600 hp which otherwise could have resulted in a super fast racing car. The body panels, the suspension equipment, the aerodynamics, and the interiors were all changed to suit the modern mechanisms of the car. After the car was launched in 1995 it took the first, third, fourth, fifth, and the thirteenth place in the 24 hours Le Mans race which was a huge achievement. After its huge success in this race the Mc Laren team went further and produced 9 more vehicles in the same year.

The Mc Laren GTR after its initial launch went through some more changes like the chassis was changed to #14R and the Configuration was changed to 6.0L from the 6.1L to reduce the weight of the car. Because it went through many modifications in appearance and specifications the car was named longtail. The longtails which were retired from racing were modified with upholstery and suspension was adjusted a bit and was sold as road cars.
