The McLaren MP4/19 was developed for the 2004 racing season and the chief designer for this was Adrian Newey.
It was a slightly more developed version of the MP4-18. Because the MP4-18 never went to race they decided to modify it and bring it in as McLaren MP4/19. The new changes in the car included changes to the aerodynamics. However David Coulthard ended up finishing at third position which gave some hopes to develop on the car.
When the car was ready to race it has a twin keel configured right under its nose. The twin keel helps the airflow to be smooth and directly onto the splitter, and all this results in the air being directed to the side pods. Many specialists do not use this Configurationbecause it has a negative effect on the suspension and also reduces the strength of the car. This was the first time ever in a race this Configurationwas used and they also included a waved wing along with it. These wings behave like the diffusers which help the car’s nose keep down and help keep the pressure under the wing and low. This was not the first time that these wings were spotted; it was there in the McLaren MP4/17 too.
