Here are the world first pictures of Mercedes Benz’s latest car, the SLS Roadster being tested within the USA. The convertible two sear SLS Roadster is expected to be available for purchase around mid 2011, giving the legion of new SLS fans enough time to save for a deposit, you can expect a first glance at the Frankfurt Motor Show at September.
As you can see from the picture below, the SLS features a very long bonnet and a short tail, which reminds me a little of a corvette’s body, lets just hope they have got the weight distribution correct, as with such a big bonnet, one could expect the SLS to suffer from over-steer a little. Despite limited statistical information, the SLS certainly sits low on the road, and the large wheel arches and black alloys certainly give the car a menacing look. The top of the car is lined with a felt roof; however after the Mercedes SLK roadster’s hardtop convertible roof actually worked, I hope they feature this car with a similar one.
From a performance perspective, the engine develops around 570 BHP from the massive 6.3 V8 German engine. Mercedes are adamant that the SLS Roadster will hit 0 – 60 in 3.8 seconds, and also features an electronically limited top speed of 196 MPH (due the soft-top roof) this car is breathtakingly quick. The SLS will be available with a 7 speed dual cluth transmission, price wise, you can expect the SLS Roadster to start from £150,000 which is actually quite cheap considering it similar from a technical view to the Mercedes McLaren SLR which cost over double.
