Porsche introduced the entry level occupant called the Porsche Boxster which is a retro car in 1997 and a 2 seater car. This was the first model the company came out with after 19 long years.

The V also previewed much before it went into production as a show car before it was finally released a few years later. The Boxster was named so because the Configuration was mid mounted and the flat Configurationit carried. It was categorized under the two passenger roadsters.

The intention behind Boxster was Porsche wanted to compete with Mercedes and BMW who had cars in the same category. The other idea was to lure customers who would otherwise simply go and buy the Miata for the lack of choices. The 2.5L overhead cam was just mounted behind the cockpit. The Configuration produced nearly 201 horsepower and was a rear wheel drive. The Configuration worked with a five speed tiptronic transmission. The transmission even though automatic allowed manual shifting.

The top was electronically controlled and there was an option of having a hard aluminum top also. There was also an option of child seat detection and other optional safety features in the Porsche Boxster.
