The Renault SM5 is in its second generation and the Renault Samsung has released it in South Korea and shares the platform with Nissan and Renault. It was a big hit at home in South Korea.

The SM -5 is actually based on a global platform called the FF-L which has been developed by the collaboration of Renault and Nissan.

The Platform is also shared by the Nissan Altima in the United States which is sold as Teana in Japan. The SM5 power train is derived form the 4 cylinder SM % Configuration and as far as safety standards go a lot of emphasis has been laid on this aspect and it also ranked high in safety features. It has front, side and side curtain airbags. It comes in with a built in navigation system, DVD player and screens for entertainment and is priced at $21000 of the higher end models and starts at $17000.  Renault’s collaboration with Samsung has been a profitable gimmick as the resources are a lot cheaper and the efficiency has not fallen down.

There is also a sports utility vehicle in the pipe line which has been birthed out of the Renault and Samsung collaboration.
