The Suzuki Grand Vitara is along wheel base version of the Vitara and is a compact SUV which is being produced by the Japanese auto company Suzuki. The Grand Vitara has been through many changes since its release and the last it was redesigned was in the year 2006.
Initially when it was released in 2002 it was a much smaller version in the United States. And it did not do well that in any of the North American Countries for that matter with just about 4000 cars being sold at that time, howeverin Canada the sales were good and even better than the United States.
The Suzuki Grand Vitara that was brought to North America was built in Japan and it is called the Escudo there in Japan. In India it is called Maruti Suzuki. In 2006 after its mixture of success and failure the Grand Vitara was finally replaced with anew platform with components that belonged to the GM Theta Platform. The Grand Vitara was again developed by the same team of engineers who developed the Theta in GM> It uses a lot of components like the suspension there are many other differences and so it does not entirely base itself on GM concepts.
