The Toyota MR2 Spyder is a mid engine with rear drive and a2 seater sports car. The Spyder means a convertible sports car. This is not the first time someone has used this name, Ferrari, and Fiat have done it before. Toyota wanted to tap the potential of this market for sports vehicles and also ahs a new roadster lined up.
The Toyota MR2 was first offered with a T-top roof and featured a 1.8L engine with four cylinders which was located in the middle of the vehicle which will be somewhere behind the driver. For many people the car did not look cute compared to the Miata until in 2005 Toyota decided otherwise. The Toyota MR2 Spyder was released in 2000 with only one trim which was very well equipped. The standards were ABS, 15 inch alloys, Air conditioning, power locks and windows, and a five speed manual transmission.
In 2002 Toyota introduced the SMT in the Toyota MR2 and also made it the cheapest car in this category. The sequential manual transmission improvised the gears to a large extent and even the down shifts were never felt. The 2005 model which is yet to be showcased is a fully revamped futuristic model and the best part is going to be the pricing.
