Vauxhall is actually a city in London and the Vauxhall Motors is Car Company in United Kingdom. It is now a
part of General Motors. Most of the current day Vauxhall Motors models are all right hand drives like the GM Opel. The founder of the Vauxhall Motors was Alexander Wislon and was founded in 1903. The company also built its first car in 1903 which was a 5hp model. It had only two forward gears and had no reverse gears.
The company decided to increase production and expand its base so it moved to Luton and started with a new name called the Vauxhall iron works until 1907. Then they realized they needed a much more modern name and they decided on Vauxhall Motors. Most of the cars made by Vauxhall Motors much later were sports models and the company started being recognized for its sports models. In 1925 General Motors acquired Vauxhall Motors with the same name and paid $2,5 Million which sounds like a joke today. But this was 1925 we are talking about.
Then the Vauxhall cars started having an American parented look and had a heavy American accent too. During the World War II like most car companies even the Vauxhall Motors had to stop all production and in the mean time they started working on the Churchill Tank. After the war the production of cars was resumed. But at this point in time the cars were designed to be more economic and affordable. There were dangers of quality compromise and even Vauxhall was blamed that the cars were not rust proof. But they soon came out of it and started building corrosion protected cars. But since they earned that reputation it became very difficult for Vauxhall Motors to get rid of it and that name haunted them until the 1980’s.
