The Vauxhall Astra is the entry level small car from Vauxhall a British Subsidiary of General Motors. Astra is a name shared by both Vauxhall and opel and both are also basically the same cars.
The Vauxhall Astra features a different engine from the rest and comes with a new amalgamated Vauxhall/Opel engine with an aluminum head, hydraulic valve and filters and overhead camshafts. Another specialty of the Vauxhall Astra was that it was the first vehicle that came with front wheel drive from Vauxhall. This [particular Vauxhall Astra engine was a big leap forward when it came to power delivered and refined fuel economy. First when it was introduced it came in the 13000 and 1600 versions but now it is available in 1800 with fuel injection. Vauxhall was the only rival for the Volkswagen golf and it did give a tough competition.
There was an older version within the Vauxhall Astra which used the 1200 cc opel OHV engine but wasn’t popular as the new ones. The Vauxhall Astra came in hatchback, saloon and estate trims and they came with two and four doors. The saloons looked more or less like the hatchback and the only difference was a boot lid and the rear windows.
