The Audi RS4 is known as the fastest Audi automobile in the A4 range. It is a higher performance version of the Audi A4, which is a compact executive automobile.
It was in the latter half of 1999 that Audi first introduced the RS4 in its initial form. It was meant to be a successor to the Audi RS2. Like its predecessor, the Audi RS4 was initially available only in Avant form (i.e. as a station wagon.) It was constructed on an existing platform, the B5 generation of A4 and S4. The base price for the Audi RS4 at this time was about 130,584 Deutsche Marks. The Audi RS4 was available throughout Europe and in a few Latin American countries as well.
In the summer of 2006, the second generation of Audi RS4 was released on the European market. It was first presented at the North American International Audio Show in January of that year. Eight months later, it arrived in car dealerships across the United States of America and Canada.
The current version of the RS4 is regarded as a major departure from past RS models, having been launched as a sedan, with a convertible and Avant version arriving much later on.
